Tegan and Sara Launch Foundation for LGBTQ Women and Girls

Pop music duo Tegan and Sara have broken barriers and expectations throughout their nearly 20 year long career, especially for LGBTQ artists and women in music. They credit much of their success to their fans in said communities. Now, the Grammy®-nominated group have decided to give back.

On December 19, they announced the launch of their latest project, the Tegan and Sara Foundation. According to the foundation’s website, they are working to raise funds and awareness to help solve issues affecting women in the LGBTQ community, and donate to fellow foundations already doing the same.
The band, composed of twins Tegan and Sara Quin, wrote in a newsletter that they were inspired to make this foundation after working with activists, researchers, legislators, and nonprofit organizations while touring last fall in support of their 8th album Love You to Death.
With a “commitment to feminism and racial equality”, their mission is to “fight against the repressive legphoto-credit-pamela-littky-extralarge_1464364032141islative of the upcoming Trump administration” and “fight for economic justice, health, and representation for LGBTQ girls and women”. Both sisters are openly gay, and this foundation only furth
ers their status as pioneers for the community.
“Together,” they added in the letter. “We can make a difference”.
